On May 30, 2020, SpaceX made history by being the first private company
to launch a manned flight, docking to the International Space Station
with two astronauts.
This is a model of that spacecraft in 1/48
scale, measuring about 7" tall. Highly detailed, with solar panels,
engines, windows, and hatches. Unpainted; can be made to look really
good with some priming, sanding, and paint. 3D printed plastic. Will
have some visible layer lines.
If you're going to have a model this size, why not make it useful? Let's make it hollow, so you can store stuff in it! This is a container big enough for your spare change or
other assorted stuff. Not recommended for food, because the porosity of the plastic can support bacteria growth. Fine for wrapped candies and the like. Not dishwasher safe. A standard soda can just fits in the base, although
you can't put the lid on over it.
A note on painting: To get a
smooth surface for painting, I’ve had best results with “Automotive
Filler Primer” (Available at Walmart and many other places) in a spray
can. Sand, prime, sand, repeat, until you have a smooth finish. Final
sand with 400 wet paper.
