Pristine unaddressed, Artcraft cacheted first day cover of the 10 cent First Man on the Moon stamp. T
his cover is postmarked both Washington, DC on September 9, 1969, the first day of issue of that stamp and Moon Landing July 20, 1969.
A round, blue, 1 1/2" circular rubber stamp impression has been applied to the cover. The stamp reads:
"This Kapton foil is from the Apollo 11 Command Module,
Columbia, which flew to the moon July, 1969"
In the center of this rubber stamp impression is an authentic fragment of the gold Kapton foil that covered the Apollo 11 command module as it flew around the moon and back to the earth. The Kapton fragment measures about 1/4" on its longest side.
The command module orbits the moon while the lunar lander goes to the surface of the moon.
The Kapton foil is covered with a thin, clear, plastic adhesive disk to protect it.
Each of these first day covers will be exactly the same. The Kapton pieces may be slightly different in size or shape.
This cover comes with a copy of a COA from the NASA employee who obtained this Kapton, documenting the authenticity of the foil.
